Dressing up, packing, last minute panics… all in the name of the ASI World Sommelier Championships
After three long years of planning, preparing and training the date for the competition is now almost upon us and what a week we have had…. The hotel has been busy and with some staff changes afoot we are having to replace some team members, which is always difficult and stressful, especially as we are such a small, close knit team and a new member has to fit perfectly into the jigsaw. We have had various other headaches thrown at us this week, which I am sure we will share with readers of this blog in the near future, dependent on the outcome, so keep reading!!!
However on a positive and exciting note, the fun has now really begun. The suits are being unwrapped and tried on with baited breath to ensure they fit as well as when they purchased many months before- new shoes are being wrapped in tissue ready to travel and Nina is busy planning the logistic nightmare of packing all the “costumes” in a logical way to ensure that should any baggage go missing, I will have enough outfits to keep me going through the various competition days…. Do I sound like a diva!!! Never mind about Nina or Romane’s outfits during the event, I am stamping my feet and pulling rank….. I want the biggest suitcase and want so many identity tags on it that it cannot possibly go astray…. Nina has purchased Union Jack suitcases especially for the occasion, so we won’t be missed in the entourage of competitors…. Team GB is on its way. The next blog will be the day before we travel and then no news until we are back- in the meantime, I’m off to taste some wines, liqueurs, spirits and obscure beverages and practice corrections of a wine list.
Till next week……
